The HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Cup for purebred Arabian horses aged four and above in the third category will take place at the Haydock Park racetrack in the United Kingdom on September 9, 2023. The race covers a distance of 1600 meters and offers a prize of £20,000. This will be the third edition of the competition under the sponsorship of the HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Racing Festival, and it is part of the Haydock Speed Cup for the first category.
The organization of the race is aimed at promoting and supporting the heritage of purebred Arabian horses and is organized with the support and encouragement of HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, Minister of Presidential Court and Chairman for the Emirates Arabian Horse Society, with the aim of developing the horse racing industry worldwide, supporting the preservation of purebred Arab horse breeds, and encouraging breeders to care for them across continents.
The mare “Thaydah Athbah” four years old and rated at 95, will be the top contender, trained by Philip Collington, who has won all four previous editions of this race, three of which were with his main sponsor, Athbah Racing, and ridden by jockey Taj O’Shea.
“Upstart Crow” supervised by James Owen, is another strong competitor aiming for its fifth consecutive win. Also in the race is “Abiyah Athbah,” the second-place finisher last year and third in 2021, trained by Peter Hammersley, with a rating of 95. “Mayfair” a recent winner at Brighton, completes the lineup.
The Arabian Racing Organization (ARO) expressed its delight at the strong and diverse participation in the HH Sheikh Fatima bint Mubarak Cup for the third category, which will be run over a mile at Haydock Park.
The festival includes races such as the Jewel of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan’s Crown, the Zayed Cup, the Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Cup, the Wathba Stallions Cup, and the International Meeting for Purebred Arabian Horse Racing.
The festival’s inaugural race started strongly on January 11 of this year. With the addition of new races in the 2023 season, the festival includes a total of 152 local and international races around the world, covering various categories such as first, second, and third-class races.
