The Wathba Stud Farm Cup is an inaugural stakes race for Arabian horses run at six furlongs. It took place on Saturday at the Alameda County Fair with much fanfare.
The race, which had a $7,000 purse that included a bonus from Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan as part of the Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival, drew interest from news agencies because a group of people from the United Arab Emirates was on hand for the race.
So Big Is Better was the big favorite in the race and cruised home with the win, finishing 10 lengths in front of second place Quick Sand PW.
Velite Star was third in the race.
The Arabian Festival will continue on throughout the summer on the fair circuit, running July 17 in Sacramento, July 30 in Santa Rosa, Sept. 17 at Fairplex and Oct. 8 in Fresno.
