Kador N U set the pace firmly going away – and around the turn by 5 lengths. Burnin Rubber had settled in 4th on the rail, but moved up on the back stretch stalking the leader, then with a steady rush in the final furlong that Kador N U could not withstand. Neck to neck down to the wire, the two headed for a track record and a photo finish, with Burnin Rubber pushing ahead over the wire by a nose.
Owner, trainer, Helen Shelley, was back in the winner’s circle in Stockton, her 2nd win for the Wathba Stud Farm Cup race series this season (June, Pleasanton, Sand de Wind). She said of Burnin Rubber. “He just flew down the stretch. We’ve had this horse for about two weeks. He came out from Delaware. It’s a different world in California. Delaware horses feel a lot less pressure here. It’s a great place to race Arabians.”
The San Joaquim County Fair at Stockton has 10 days racing of in September, and the Arabians are part of the fun. Fair Director, Tom Sawyer (center), said, “It’s fabulous to have the Arabians here at the fair. Horse racing is fun and to show off the Arabians here is our delight.”
