Fanal Al Samawi tops 11-strong Arabian field

Fanal Al Samawi won the HH Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival’s second Al Wathba Stud Farm Cup race held in Miesau, Germany, on Sunday.

Eleven horses started in the 1,400m race, which was open to horses aged three years and over.
Fanal Al Samawi was driven home to a great finish by jockey Marian Falk Weissmeier to give owner-trainer Waltraut Gottschalk a smart victory in the race, which is part of the Shaikh Mansour Festival to promote Purebred Arabian racing at grass-roots level all over the world.

Ghilali, a son of Dormane, owned by Regine Weissmeier and Guy Authier, finished second under Fabian Xaver Weissmeier, while Ussam de Carrere finished third in the 11-horse field. Ussam de Carrere is owned and trained by Annegret Steinhart and was ridden by amateur jockey Lena Maria Mattes.

“Sunday’s was the second Wathba Stud Farm Cup race to be held in Germany and the HH Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival has this year staged the World Arabian Racing Conference, the prestigious Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultyan Al Nahyan Cup and the HH Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies World Championship IFAHR race,” said Lara Sawaya, Director of the Shaikh Mansour Festival and head of IFAHR ladies’ racing.

The festival is organised by the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority and co-ordinated by Abu Dhabi Sports Council in association with Emirates Racing Authority, IFAHR and Emirates Arabian Horse Society, supported by the General Authority for Youth and Sports and Fegentri, with Emirates airline as the official carrier.
