Athlete Del Sol bids for another Wathba Stud Farm Cup win in Duindigt on Sunday, May 22

After winning the Wathba Stud Farm race for small stables and owners on May 1, 2011, Athlete Del Sol returns to try for a duplicate effort on Sunday’s Wathba Stud Farm Cup to be held in Duindigt, The Netherlands.

The Dormane son will once again be partnered with jockey, J Brunwig, and will again face rivals Sankado and Sakina de Faust along with 12 other runners.

Trained by owner Karen van den Boss, Athlete Del Sol – Dormane x A La Volee- had won by half a length from Sankado with Sakina de Faust in third place in the May 1 race.

The race is open to 4-year-olds and will be run over 10 furlongs on turf.

The Wathba Stud Farm Cup races are part of the HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival.

Abdulla Al Qubaisi, director of communications of Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) said, “Already we are seeing a rise in the number of entries for the Wathba Stud Farm Cup races and that is a very encouraging sign..”

Mirna Youness of La Sirene said she was delighted be part of the event. “Horses have always been part of the UAE culture and it is such a great initiative to support Purebred Arabian racing at the grassroot level,” she said.

The HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival’s Wathba Stud Farm Cup races are staged with support from Invest AD, Areej Al Ameerat, La Sirene, the UAE’s General Women’s Union, Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition 2011,Wathba Stud Farm and Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club.
